Cover Reveal: THE GATEWAY OF LIGHT AND DARKNESS by Heather Marie

Monday, March 16, 2015

Hey, everyone! I am so excited for today's post because it's a COVER REVEAL for a novel I've been dying to read, which is THE GATEWAY OF LIGHT AND DARKNESS by Heather Marie. It releases April 13th, 2015 from Curiosity Quills Press, and is the follow-up to the YA supernatural thriller THE GATEWAY THROUGH WHICH THEY CAME (which I thoroughly loved). Before you jump to the awesome cover below, here’s a note from the wonderful, Heather Marie:

Hi hi! Thank you so much for stopping by and checking out the cover reveal! I’m so psyched to share the Light and Darkness cover with you. It went through a lot of changes before the final version was chosen, and watching it develop into what it is now was seriously exciting! If you enjoyed book one, you are in for a treat. I had way too much fun writing book two, admittedly more fun than the first, because Aiden and the gang go through some intense twist and turns throughout the entire story. If there’s one thing I love, it’s definitely hearing from my beta readers just how crazy and exciting the journey was for them. It’s my hope that you feel the same way and I can’t wait for you to read the final installment in the Gateway Series! With that being said, thank you again for reading Aiden’s story, and now let’s get to the creeptastic cover reveal, shall we? Enjoy!

Well, it’s that time, my friends.

Ready… Set… SCROLL!

The battle of good vs. evil wages on for Aiden Ortiz in this final installment of the Gateway Series: The Gateway of Light and Darkness. With the Dark Priest defeated, and the Brethren of Shadows refusing to forfeit calling upon the Darkness, the Brethren are determined more than ever to discover a way to banish the Men of Light for good. And as the Dark Priest's curse invading Aiden's veins continues to take on a life of its own, he finds himself in a standoff between his own kind, and the Brethren that want to recruit him for all the wrong reasons. Accompanied by fellow Gateway, Julie Martin, and his best friends Trevor and Evan, seventeen-year-old Aiden prepares himself for the battle of his life.

Protecting those he loves, and learning to put aside his differences for his father in order to learn the ways of the Light, Aiden begins to realize that the thing endangering their lives might not be the threat of the Brethren alone, but the thing taking shape inside of him readying to unleash itself upon them all.

Heather Marie lives in Northern California with her husband, and spends the majority of her time at home reading. Before she followed her dreams of becoming a writer, Heather worked as a hairstylist and makeup artist for several years. Although she enjoyed the artistic aspect of it all, nothing quite quenched her creative side like the telling of a good story. When the day had come for her to make a choice, she left behind her promising career to start another, and never looked back.

Welcome to The Tsar's Guard

Saturday, March 7, 2015
This post about The Tsar's Game by Evelyn Skye. Forthcoming from HarperCollins/Balzer + Bray in 2016.

Welcome to the Guard. The Tsar is very pleased to have you in his service. As a token of his appreciation, he would like to offer you hints about The Tsar’s Game prior to its release.

But of course, it’s never as easy as the Tsar simply handing over rewards, even to the most loyal of his followers. Nikolai and Vika must go through the Tsar’s Game before a winner may emerge as Royal Enchanter. Likewise, you must earn your rewards.

The Tsar will, however, tell you this: the number five is important in The Tsar’s Game. And therefore, on the 5th day of each month leading up to the release of the book next year, there will be a giveaway, and the prize will be a clue about The Tsar’s Game.

Over time, the hints will begin to paint a picture of the characters and the story. (Or perhaps they will merely deepen the suspense. The Tsar’s generosity and cruelty are equally unpredictable.)

The first giveaway will take place on
April 5th. Until then, please spread the word about The Tsar's Game and the upcoming hunt for clues. You are welcome to copy this message to your blog, tumblr, facebook, and all other manner of communication.

And as always, we need help recruiting more soldiers for our elite army. If you’ve forgotten the link to the Guard’s page, here it is:

Pass it on to all those you deem worthy.

The Tsar thanks you once again for your dedication.

~ Captain of the Guard

Waiting on Wednesday #2: Love Fortunes and Other Disasters by Kimberly Karalius

Wednesday, March 4, 2015
Waiting on Wednesday is a bookish meme hosted by Breaking the Spine that lets us feature book/s we are eagerly anticipating.

Love Fortunes & Other Disasters

Young Adult - Contemporary, Romance
Expected Publication: May 12th 2015 by Swoon Reads
In the tradition of Alice Hoffman’s Practical Magic, one girl chooses to change her fortune and her fate by falling in love.

Love is real in the town of Grimbaud and Fallon Dupree has dreamed of attending high school there for years. After all, generations of Duprees have successfully followed the (100% accurate!) love fortunes from Zita’s famous Love Charms Shop to happily marry their high school sweethearts. It’s a tradition. So she is both stunned and devastated when her fortune states that she will NEVER find love.

Fortunately, Fallon isn’t the only student with a terrible love fortune, and a rebellion is brewing. Fallon is determined to take control of her own fate—even if it means working with a notorious heartbreaker like Sebastian.

Will Fallon and Sebastian be able to overthrow Zita’s tyranny and fall in love?

Why I am waiting on Love Fortunes and Other Disasters...
This book has a really CUTE cover and I think I am in love with it. As a big fan of contemporary novels, this sure sounds promising and fun! I have not read any books from Swoon Reads (yet) and I hope this will be my first one. I'm really looking forward to read this!

Children's Fiction - Ages 7-9
Publication: January 6th 2014 by Egmont USA

Amazon || Barnes & Noble

A moment ago, I was happily napping on the windowsill in the sunshine, dreaming I was flying through the air, catching sparrows in my claws.

Now I’m awake. Georgie woke me. I wouldn’t do that to her.

A popular middle-grade writer moves to chapter books (ages 7-9) with this humorous tale about a cat that makes Grumpy Cat seem cheerful. Perfect for fans of Geronimo Stilton and Dog Diaries.

Hissy Fitz lives with some two-legged creatures who are destined to serve him in every possible way and understand his every whim. Sadly, these creatures are sorely lacking in their skills. For one thing–they touch him when they want to touch him. Don’t they know that the two-legged are there for him to touch when he wants to–meaning when he wants food? Petting wakes him up! They speak to him–don’t they know the two-legged should be seen–so Hissy knows where to order food–and not heard! It’s becoming intolerable. What is this irascible cat to do?

"With its short chapters, snappy dialogue, and fast-moving plot, this book will be popular with newly independent readers." —School Library Journal

"Hissy’s drily delivered complaints and observations (“Humans are the noisiest creatures alive. I’m not sure there is any escape”) entertain, while Hissy’s frustration at his dependence on large humans who annoy him will likely resonate with many a reader." —Publisher's Weekly

1. How did you come up with the idea of Hissy Fitz?

During a writing workshop I was leading with a group of middle-grade students in Michigan, the idea of a cat that couldn’t sleep was suggested: an insomniac cat. The phrase make me giggle, so I jotted it down. Cats sleep on average eighteen to nineteen hours a day. How would a cat—an animal that is already mercurial and often surly—behave if it was unable to sleep? This was a clearly an epic quest that needed to be written.

2. You already have a lot of novels, what's the best part in writing novels?

The development of the story. I’m doing that right now: reading, gathering a cast, listing events, outlining, creating a world where people live and one person (in this a Corgi) struggles to get what they desire.

3. Have you always wanted to be an author? If not, what did you wanted to be?

Heavens no. I wanted to be a Major League center fielder, an efficiency expert (after seeing Clifton Webb in Cheaper By the Dozen), a lawyer, a rock star, a fine artist, a movie director, and a teacher.

4. Are you going to release more novels any time soon?

Yes. I don’t know if they’ll be published, but I’ll release them—from my mind, say. When Egmont USA closed, I had a novel finished, its ARC sent out, its pub date set for September. It was the first book in a new series, a spin-off from my Guinea Dog books. We’ll see what becomes of it. I have a picture book deal pending with another house, and a short story coming out soon in Scholastic’s Storyworks in-class magazine (circulation, 200,000). I’ll be writing till I’m physically unable.

5. Recommend your book [Hissy Fitz] to the readers.

Hissy can’t sleep. The Fitz family won’t let her. Dad's power tools are earsplitting. The boy is maniacal. The girl is smothering. The neighborhood is filled with trucks, dogs, and more people. Hissy is coming unglued. He hisses. He lashes out. Do not mess with Hissy Fitz.
